Colorado State Representative ‘Encouraged’ to Resign
Castle Rock Lawyer for Domestic Violence Allegations
Today a Colorado House of Representatives member was encouraged to resign “in the wake of a report that he twice was arrested years ago on allegations of domestic violence” (The Gazette). The state Representative claims that the allegations were false, that no violence occurred, and he apologizes for any emotional pain he caused the women involved. The 2nd allegation was made in 2008, after an argument with his now wife (married in 2009). After an argument and a crash into a guardrail on I-70, a police officer charged the Rep. with domestic violence. The women stated that the misunderstanding “was totally blown out of proportion” by the officer, claimed that nothing violent happened, and believes that the arrest was “racially motivated.”
Douglas County Charges of Domestic Violence
This story is a good example of how someone could be falsely charged with Domestic Violence in Douglas County. An officer responds to a call, he knows an argument/misunderstanding took place, and rather than risk letting someone go who could have potentially hurt their girlfriend, he presses charges and makes an arrest. Thankfully for the man in this situation, the charge was eventually dismissed, but this is not always the case. While Domestic Violence is an add-on crime (a sentence enhancer) and never charged on its own, it will make any other crime you are charged with more serious. It is important to have an experienced lawyer represent you, who can put forward your best possible defense, and help bring to light what really happened.
