Douglas County Bribery Law

Douglas County’s bribery law makes using money to influence public figures unlawful. CRS 18-8-302 defines the specific acts of bribery throughout Colorado. You commit this offense in Castle Rock, Parker, or Highlands Ranch if you:

  • offer or provide any pecuniary benefit to a public servant intending to influence their vote, opinion, judgement, discretion, or other action,
  • or as a public servant, you solicit, accept, or agree to accept any pecuniary benefit to influence the above actions

Bribery often comes in the form of money but can also involve offers of promises or favors, property, or commercial interests. Public servants include a wide range of positions including government employees, prosecutors, mayors, senators, city clerks, health officials, and police officers.
